Where One Door Closes, Another Opens

Opportunity is defined as: a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. Disappointment is defined as sadness or displeasure caused by the nonfulfillment of one's hopes or expectations. Opportunity and disappointment. I believe that these are two factors that most determine our lives.

My SAE is in Horticultural Entrepreneurship. I own a business where I propagate and sell house plants. I’m continuously trying to expand and grow my business. A month or two ago, I had the opportunity to apply for a farmers market! I was so excited because this was something that could really help my business grow. I could reach more costumers and sell more. So, I applied for the market. A week or two later I heard back and found out that I was not selected as a vendor of the market. I was very disappointed. I was so excited for this opportunity and I had really gotten my hopes up. However, even in my disappointment my mom encouraged me to remain positive, and find the next opportunity. A week goes by and I found out my neighbors mom just opened a shop where she is allowing vendors to come in and sell their items. I reached out and the owner said she would love to meet with me. Again, I was so excited! I set a time to meet with her and when I got there I instantly knew that this shop was the place for me. I loved the atmosphere! She cared so much about me as a person and my business as its own. She cared about my passion and how it had led me to where I am today. One door closed, and another opened.

Opportunity and disappointment. They can determine the path of our lives. What determines it even more is the way we react to them and how we let it define us. I encourage you, DV, to search for opportunities and not let your disappointment get the best of you. Never forget that when one door closes, another will open!

I believe in you!
