Saying Goodbye

No matter what age you are, this time of year brings goodbyes. As a senior, I have had to say goodbye to many things over the last few weeks. Some goodbyes were definitely more welcome than others, but the one that hit me the hardest was installing next years officers at my chapter FFA banquet a few weeks ago.

My FFA chapter was reinstated my freshman year of high school. This class of graduating seniors is the biggest we’ve ever had, and the first class to have FFA all throughout high school. There are nine of us graduating and five of us were vital members of the officer team.

Being President, this officer team has been my rock throughout this year. I go to them with anything and everything and I don’t think anyone could ever be prepared to let go of the people who have truly become your family.

While saying goodbye is always difficult, it gives us an opportunity to reflect. I decided to think of what this chapter has truly given me. The list was definitely long, but at the top was a family. FFA has given me the biggest family of supporters and friends. As I step out of the role of serving District V FFA, I wanted to take a second to reflect on how the past two years have shaped me into the leader I am today.

When I look back at the girl who was voted in as District V Tresurer two years ago, I can barely recognize her. Serving in this capacity has given me an immense appreciation for every conversation I have with someone. It has taught me to seek out those new connections because sharing my story and hearing the stories of others is so important, and something I have come to hold close to my heart. I have also grown strides as a leader. Over these two years I have strengthened my problem solving skills and learned how to better respond in difficult situations.

Without my chapter officer team and District V, I would not be the person I am today. These important things that I am saying goodbye to have shown me that goodbyes are necessary so I can experience the next great thing.

As you say goodbye, remember the good parts and what it has taught you. Always be eager for the next opportunity because saying goodbye means you’re one step closer to the next great thing.

Thank you, District V, for making goodbyes so hard. I am so proud to have served these past two years.

Forever grateful,

Kaitlyn Maruszewski

2024-2025 District V Vice President
