What’s Your Why?
Sometimes things get hard; that’s a simple fact of life. At some point everything will be difficult for us. That can be school, sports, FFA, or other activities. We are all human and sometimes we lose motivation or confidence
when things are difficult. It’s okay for things to get hard, it’s honestly unavoidable. What matters is how we choose to get through the hard things and how we respond.
I am a very self critical person, some would call me a perfectionist. I always want to perform my best in every situation. Since I hold myself to such high standards sometimes I struggle to keep my confidence when something doesn’t go my way. If I’m not very good at something the first try, I want to give up. The thoughts that go through my head are “This just isn’t for me” or “I’ll stick to what I’m good at” but in having these thoughts I’m forgetting WHY I decided to do it in the first place.
Why you are doing something is a thousand times more important than how well you are doing it at that particular moment. We all struggle. Sometimes we get discouraged and beat down. In those times, remember your why! Why are you in FFA? Why did you decide to play that sport? Why do you enjoy being involved in that club or group? When things get hard, call on your why to keep going!
Along with using our why to encourage ourselves, we can use it to make sure we are being intentional with our actions as well! To make sure we are setting intentions for how we act or perform and to stay focused- we can ask yourselves why. Why did I want to be a District V Officer? To get to know DV members and be able to connect with them! I wanted to bring our District together with more activities and member outreach! And most importantly, I wanted to make sure DV members knew that they are valued, loved, worthy, and belong in this organization that we all love. Having this why that I think about every day and can look back on helps me a lot. Using it I can remember in the hard times, easy times, fun times, and everything in between why I’m here.
I encourage all of you to remember your why. I keep a notes page on my phone with all of my whys so I always have them ready for when I need to call on them to help me through or to help me stay focused and intentional. Writing down your why will keep you accountable in those difficult times. District V FFA- Remember your WHY!
You’ve got this!
