Trick or Treat

“Halloween is the one day a year when you can be whoever you want.” On this day, it is acceptable to dress up as different characters, but some of us may never truly remove our masks. We claim that we only dress up one day out of the 365, yet in reality, masks can be observed all around us. Somedays we feel the need to cover up our feelings or looks, but in reality we are the best version of ourselves, and genuine people will not love us for our “masks” but true friends will want us for who we really are.

Instead of trying to cover up the things we see as flaws, let’s all try to embrace them and be our true selves because its okay to not be okay sometimes. We all struggle in life, so when your cup is full, try to work on filling other people’s; maybe check up on some of your friends because we all get a little wrapped up in the busyness of life. Keep in mind the impact smaller acts can make on someone’s day—just holding the door for someone or asking the older lady at Walmart if you can help with her groceries can create a chain reaction that may spread joy to numerous people.

We all struggle sometimes, so make sure you let others know you are there for them whenever, and always embrace your personality. District five, we are the best people we can be, so let’s save our masks for Halloween!
