In my mind, the most impactful part of the FFA motto is “Living to Serve.” I find this the most impactful because it is what gives our organization real impact on the world. In June, I was able to attend the National FFA Washington Leadership Conference in our nations capital, Washington, D.C. It was an amazing week filled with so many memories and emotions, but the thing that stuck with me the most was our service project.

Through the company “Meals of Hope” we packaged 65,000 meals in only a couple hours. These meals went to people in need in the D.C community. What impacted me so much was the atmosphere while we created change. We danced and sang along to music, talked with each other, hooped and hollered, and had so much fun! This service project was one of my top five favorite things from WLC, and it really inspired me to encourage more service projects at my home chapter and community.

I feel like sometimes we forget that service is  supposed to be fun, feel good, and be rewarding! Occasionally, I see people dreading planning or participating in service projects. Although they are always quite a bit of work, remember why you started and who you will impact. I hope this can serve as a reminder that whatever you do in life, have fun and find the light! You can make any activity fun, especially service, by interacting with others, being enthusiastic, and having a good mindset. Oh! And music always makes anything more enjoyable!
