No Pressure

“Oh, no pressure, but…” In between trying to get people in the zone before an important contest and teasing my siblings, I’ve said this phrase numerous times. While taking a second to really think about what this saying meant, I realized how truly unhelpful it is. I mean by saying “no pressure,” are we really going to boost someone’s confidence?
Instead of giving ourselves the “no pressure” pep talk before a big event, let’s just tell ourselves, “This will be a learning experience, and it’s up to me if it’s good or bad.” This will change our minds from thinking we will probably not be as great as the people before us to seeing everything as an opportunity for improvement.
In the end, whether our fear is talking in front of crowds or if it’s the fear of not doing well on an assignment, see everything as an opportunity to be better next time. We’re all human, and we all make mistakes, so what is the point in being scared to?
