What is a real friend? By definition a real friend is “someone you can trust who has seen the best and worst of you and will be there whenever you need someone to talk to“ While I agree with this definition, I believe what really makes a real friend is when you can go years without talking to them  and always pick up right where you left off.

In my life I find myself with quite a few long distance friends. My best friend since birth, Ava, lives about two hours away from me, and my other closest friend, Anna, lives five hours away. Ava and Anna are like sisters to me. I always feel truly like myself when i’m with them. Although I don’t get to see or hang out with Ava or Anna much, we always can pick up right where we left off. It’s never awkward, it’s just exciting! Every time I see Ava or Anna i’m so excited to catch them up on what my life has been like. I’m excited to tell them all of the things that have happened to me, and to hear about all the exciting things that have been happening to them. While this may sound sad, like having to catch up instead of just living through everything together can be lonely, but it’s not. Our friendship never changes no matter the distance, time, or events that happen in between our meetings. This is what sets Ava and Anna apart from just any friends, they are my real and true friends. You can’t force real friendships, you have to let them find you. However, you also have to be open to letting them form. The best friendships come in the most unexpected ways.

I encourage you to find your real friends. Find the people who make you so excited you’re jumping up and down! (yes I jump up and down when I find out that I get to go see them!) Find your real friends that truly care about you, no matter the time or distance. District V, find the people that make you happy. Find your real friends who you can pick up with after years of not seeing each other! I promise they are out there somewhere.

With encouragement and love,
